About Sally
I chose watercolor as my medium because it could travel easily. I use six colors, a brush and a glass of water. I haven’t deviated in twenty-four years. My aim is to create luminosity with color and the birds ready to fly off the page.
I contracted childhood polio at a young age which left me with “dropped foot syndrome.” I began taking dance classes to compensate, finding creative ways to move and dance. I became a dancer, choreographer and a Kinetic Awareness teacher, graduating with an MA Degree in Dance from New York University.
In my forties, post-polio syndrome resulted in a pronounced tremor in my right hand. Taking calligraphy classes gave me the control to shape letters becoming a fluent left-handed writer. I then enrolled in more traditional art classes in New York and Memphis, Tennessee. Workshops with Master Teachers Katie Lee and Hillary Parker introduced me to the precision required for botanical and bird art.
I now live in Sarasota, Florida teaching botanical art privately in my studio or painting commissions for restaurants and private collectors.
